A number of residents have contacted Bethnal Green North Liberal Democrat Councillors about the proposal by the Crown Estate to sell the freehold of their properties. For many residents this has raised concerns about tenancies, future levels of rent, service charges and maintenance of properties.

Residents in Mile End were invited to a question and answer session with local MP and junior Minister Jim Fitzpatrick at the British Estate community centre on Saturday, only to be told when they got there that he had gone to watch West Ham play a football match instead.

Yesterday the London Assembly debated the Mayor of London's draft budget for 2010/11. Due to the Mayor hiking up fares well above the rate of inflation - including Oyster Pay As You Go bus fares by a staggering 20% - most Londoners will be paying a far greater bill under Boris Johnson's mayoralty.The Mayor's proposals will also lead to a net reduction in police officers by 2012 of 455 police officers, and possibly even more.

Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrat Councillors use a lot of public transport - and spend a lot of time reading platform announcements. Today, Councillor Stephanie Eaton asks why there are two sets of timing announcement boards at Bethnal Green Tube station and none at all at Whitechapel station.

Councillors from the Liberal Democrat group in Tower Hamlets today criticised the opening hours of Skillsmatch, the Council's "flagship job brokerage scheme". The main office in Canary Wharf closes for 2 and a half hours each day and all day Friday.

Liberal Democrats in Wapping have expressed their shock and sadness at the amount of graffiti and damage to the civilian War Memorial. The memorial by Wendy Taylor CBE recognises the sacrifice of the people of East London during the blitz and is a much loved local landmark.

Liberal Democrats in Tower Hamlets have called for an amnesty that will allow local people to hand in dogs that are out of control or too big to the Council's dog warden. An amnesty scheme in Merseyside saw 80 dangerous dogs removed from neighbourhoods.

Local residents have alerted Bethnal Green North Liberal Democrats to a plan to cut down the ten lovely London Plane trees that line the road alongside the Old Bethnal Green Town Hall. Councillor Stephanie Eaton has written to planning officers to try and stop the trees from being cut down.

Enquiries by Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats have revealed that the Labour party has spent over £20,000 on photographs by celebrity fashion and lingerie photographer, Rankin. Rankin is known for his work with celebrities such as Kate Moss and the Rolling Stones and for work on fashion magazines such as Vogue.

Organisers of the Halloween party at St John's community Centre on the Isle of Dogs invited Councillor Stephanie Eaton to see the conditions under which volunteers and others were working. Cllr Eaton expressed her concern at the conditions of the cooking and washing up facilities, and her dismay that the workers were locked out of the kitchen.

Libdem Councillors have asked Tower Hamlets Homes to sort out a nasty fungus which is attacking crabapple trees in Weavers Ward. Local residents say the trees have been diseased for at least 10 years.

This week a delegation of women from Bethnal Green North visited the display of models of the Borough at the head office of the Canary Wharf group. The visit which was co-ordinated by Councillor Azizur Rahman Khan was a great success and the women were interested to see the photographs and images of Docklands and London, and to learn more about plans for the future of Tower Hamlets.

Councillor Stephanie Eaton, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Tower Hamlets today described as "a great shame" the low level of voter registration among homeless people in Tower Hamlets. Figures revealed to Councillor Eaton show that only 5 people identified as homeless in the borough are registered to vote.
